____________________________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE IN THE DARK there's no one left to call |
____________________________________________________________________________________ It was another sleepless night but that wasn't unusual for the boy. Seijun was actually rather used to it as he saw on his bed instead of sleeping on it. It wasn't that he got nightmares or something was stopping him from sleeping. Sure the first few times he killed someone he couldn't sleep all night due to nightmares but now he couldn't even dream anymore. It was as if he was some kind of robot, he would close his eyes and rest and then woken up the next day. All he would see is black like someone who had turned off the t.v. Yet those were are as most of the time he couldn't sleep in the night. He was used to staying up during the night since it is easier to assassinate someone. Back before he became a lieutenant he could sleep in the day and just be looked at as lazy. Now though, it was much harder to do so mainly because he has to stay away during the day to make an appearance of someone of his rank. Also he had to train the soldiers but really that was more of Colonel Hudson's job. When the ma takes over for him, he would go to his room and get some sleep there but that would only last for half an hour before he has to go to some briefing or meeting with the other officers. Yeah, it was really hard to sleep these days alright.
Slowly the male stood up and walked away from the bed. Without any sleep he supposed he might as well go do something productive. Training in the gun would work, he still needed to improve in the area. Sure it was easier to kill someone with a sword and hide the evidence, namely because the government would cover it up but if someone finds a bullet it was hard to do. Yet learning how to use a gun was important because it was a better weapon to use in war. Firs though since it was night time he supposed he should go ahead and check up on something in his office. Good thing that it was on the way so he won't be wasting too much time on his little detour. Time was a valuable thing after all with how limited it is. So he had quickened his steps but make sure not to wake anyone. He noted that there were some night guards out. They seemed to be tired though and even sleeping. Lightly he walked over to one of them and put a sword near his neck. The cold metal blade seems to wake one of them looking rather worried. His partner turned around to see that it was just Seijun.
"Sir!" They cried out in unison. The male merely nodded spotting fear in their eyes. He knew that he could easily tell on them and they would be punished. He really hated failures like them especially if their inadequacies might lead to others being troubled or worse, killed. People like these guards really should die but still he walked away without another words. He wasn't sure if they got the message but the sword was a silent warning. If he caught them sleeping again he won't be afraid to kill them. They were low class soldiers after all, easily replaceable just like a lot of human lives now that he thought about it. That meant that he, himself can be easily replaced. It wouldn't be hard to train for another assassin, yes it will take time but he was sure that they could afford it. Yet no sense of depression or anger came to him. Instead he felt...apathetic. As if the fact that he can be replaced was nothing more than some statistics he would find on his desk. Then again, that was how it was for the male.
As the lieutenant soon made it into his assigned office, which really was just an empty room with a desk. He had two stationed offices, one was in Hudson's room for his position as a lieutenant, the other was this one where he was assigned to his real job. He walked over to the closet where his weapons were suppose to be held but the male had moved it into the closet of his own room. So instead inside was a small white dog. He knelt down at the food bowl to see that there were still some food left. It was asleep but he had expected that, he had merely came to check on it. He soon left but not before taking some extra paper in his office.
Seijun made it to his real destination which was not actually the shooting gallery. He never believed in it as the targets were too easy. Instead he had walked to an open range. His gun as usual had a silencer on it. He quickly grabbed then pieces of paper leaving the rest of his stack under his feet lightly so that they were not be crumpled. The silver haired teen released the grip he had on the papers letting the wind take it scattering them. He aimed at the pieces and pulled the trigger in rapid succession but only managed to hit seven of them. Despite the mild annoyance, his face remained blank. When he heard footsteps though, he spun around and pointed his gun at the new comer.

Hudson was up late tonight. Work. For an individual like the colonel, this type of job had its ups and downs, pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages. The advantages in the Reaper's mind were fairly obvious; being able to participate in tense battles and fight in a war, protecting the side he is fighting for and ending the lives of his opponents and anyone else who dared to stand in the human military's way. The violent advantage was really just a reason as to why the cold colonel was a sadistic man, as a matter of fact, killing enemies and fighting in battles was not the standard advantage of being a soldier or a colonel; it was actually a risk. Although the fierce traits that made Hudson the man he was saw the risky battles as the way to quench his hidden bloodthirst.
The disadvantage? Paperwork. It was unavoidable and would appear no matter what. The bad thing was, compared to amount of battles and fights to be had, paperwork seemed to be much more common than that, something which irritated Hudson. However, he knew it was necessary and also knew that it had to be done, no matter how boring it was. Lately he had dropped the paperwork on some other members of the military by training more soldiers and letting others take the place of him, but it had seemed it finally caught up with him and the parts needed to be finished by him could only be done by him. How great.
Although Hudson was near to completing the annoying papers, and with only a few left, the stack to his right which were all completed was nearly a full pile. The night was not kind to the Reaper this time, after all he had to spend it doing such boring duty.
All of a sudden, he spotted one of the lieutenant's making him way into the other office, and the appearance of the man let Hudson instantly know who it was; Seiun Zaiaku. One of the most skilled members in the entire military and a force to be reckoned with on the field of battle, Hudson respected this brave warrior and saw him as a valuable assassin, a successful being within the military. Some within the military even label him as Hudson's right-hand man, although whether this is true or not is still a mystery. Not surprising though, they were both skilled warriors and worked together before.
Soon after, the lieutenant exited the room and left the place as Hudson's brown eyes followed with interest, watching him leave as if he had somewhere to be at this time of night. It had seemed that Seijun did not spot the colonel, or possibly he did but ignored him?
Either way, Hudson was growing tired of the silly paperwork before him and needed some amusement before finishing off the last pieces left; Hudson would be in luck if Seijun was attempting to practice his skills, but if he was simply returning to bed, then Hudson would be returning to the paperwork. Great.
Standing up out of his throne-like chair located in his large, expensive office, Hudson grabbed a handgun to the side on a table despite there being the powerful revolver on his side. Hudson did not plan to use his beloved revoler in nothing other than a battle or a true enemy, he believed to save the bullets when it came to training. The military outfit was present on his body, his sleeves rolled up while his gloved-hand gripped the silver handgun. A grunt came from Hudson, the feel of a gun in his hand being an enjoyable pleasure; knowing that there was an item in your hand which could end lives and cause chaos was a unique feeling.
It was not long before Hudson was outside, taking a guess at where Seijun could be, his guess paying off as he spotted the man firing bullets at paper targets in the air with a gun that had the attatchment of a silencer. Either he did not want to wake the sleeping soldiers or he wanted to be silent on his own terms. Although from what Hudson knew and observed over time, this man did not seem to care about other's sleeping habits and instead disliked loud noise, even being quiet himself, he was probably doing it for himself. An odd figure within the military, but an interesting one nonetheless, Hudson's footsteps grew louder as he got closer, catching the attention of the lieutenant.
As the gun pointed at him, Hudson didn't move an inch yet kept his menacing smile, completely calm as both hands rested behind his lower back.
"Now, now. It is disrespectful to point your gun at your superior." Hudson muttered quite arrogantly, the silver handgun in his hand behind his back, intending to shoot targets as well.

____________________________________________________________________________________ It seems the person had been Colonel Hudson, also known as 'the reaper'. The man appeared calm even smiling despite the fact that there was a gun pointed at him but Seijun was not surprise. From the time he had spent with the man, which was more than many would know of, he always had been a calm individual. "Now, now. It is disrespectful to point your gun at your superior." The man spoke with an air of arrogance. The boy merely stared at him for a moment before dropping his gun to the side. He was a bit curious to what the man was doing up so late. Isn't it good to get some rest especially someone with a lot of work such as training, monitoring the prisoners and the paperwork as well. Then again, he shouldn't be the one saying such things as he was not asleep right now. Instead he was out training and tomorrow was going to be a busy day with the war coming up any time now. There were also the gangsters they would have to deal with, namely the hybrid and the neutral ones. Sure most of them are small currently but it is best to take care of them before they became a problem. He had already put down some of them himself and because they were small not many spoke of it.
Quickly though he saluted to the man. "Colonel Hudson." he stated rather calmly not embarrassed that a moment ago he had pointed a gun at a higher officer. It was not because he looked down on them an, No, he really couldn't for many reasons. Unlike those guard this man was efficient at his job, one can easily tell that by the rank and the title he was given. He respected him due to this skills and the fact that he had enough charisma to talk to others. He was the kind to lead even if the world he lead would be one covered in blood. Then again it wouldn't that different from now with the war going on. They were already having prisoners. If he remembered right from one of the files, there was a little girl by the name of Tuesday in their jail. She was a hybrid so not many pitied her and the lieutenant was in the majority although it was for a different reason. Unlike most people he didn't hate hybrids but he didn't like them either. They were simply there, he held them in the same regard as humans. Of course that isn't exactly a good thing since human lives was not important in his eyes. No, he lived a rather dangerous but simple life. He was to serve the military no matter the cost and kill whoever is in the way. If it's a hybrid or human, woman or child, he really didn't care.
"What are you doing here so late sir?" he asked his voice still in a monotone. Seijun stared at the high officer truly curious to why he was here. Was he taking a walk? Did he hear the gun shots? No, he had put a silencer on so that he wouldn't hear any loud noises. He hated loud noises and much prefer tranquility. Too bad the base was filled with too many people, one of the reasons why he would travel to the beach from time to time, just to get away from everything. Of course he would quickly come back before the next day came so that no one would know of his disappearance and question him on why he would travel there. He stood there and watched Hudson analyzing him trying to gauge the man and even hypothesize why he was here but he couldn't come up with anything reasonable. Even though he knew the man for a long time he was hard to predict and read. Well there was a reason why he had such a position after all.
"Perhaps you should get some sleep sir. The war might be coming up any day now and you would be a valuable asset if well rested." he suggested trying to hide his worry with professionalism. No, he wasn't worried for the man for their association as it is nothing more than a leader and subordinate. At least that was the logical reasoning that was in the young teen's mind. He never did understand actual bonds well which was he would usually avoid people to the best of his ability. Of course there were some that he could not avoid, Hudson was one of them. Another due to his past would be Ayumi. Ayumi...he quickly dispelled the image of the girl who had helped him when he was a kid. The girl that gave him food but wanted nothing from him.

Hudson kept his smirk as Seijun lowered his gun after stating the name and title of the Reaper. Like Hudson himself, Seijun had seemed to remain calm in such a situation. It was more than likely that the average soldier would be apologizing greatly if he accidentally pointed any type of weapon at Colonel Hudson, as he knew without that apology there would be dire consequences. Although seeming as this was his lieutenant, that level of discipline was not needed. As a matter of fact, Hudson was more than confident that soon enough, the soldiers would be feeling intimidated by Seijun too, he was a strong figure with exceptional skill and also had authority, much like Hudson.
He was then asked a question as to why he was here and why was he here at such a time? Hudson imagined his concern, after all Hudson was a valuable asset to the military and needed to be fully awake and ready to lead his men at any point, not to mention train them whenever was possible. The fact that Hudson was up at this late time was not a good thing at all, although the thought of doing boring paperwork in the morning was a bothersome thought for the colonel; so he simply decided to get it done tonight. Although things were starting to look like he would have to settle for the last lot in the morning if he took this opportunity to fire some rounds.
And while Hudson could ask the same question back at the quiet swordsman, Hudson was already aware of the strange quirk that graced the lieutenant. The perceptive ability of Hudson's helped him to notice the odd habit that Seijun had; not sleeping at night, or at least hardly sleeping at night. Seijun did never seem to sleep at night but always rested at times during the day. It was something Hudson still wasn't completely sure about, although something he had the grasp of.
"Paperwork, you know how it is." Hudson told him, taking his hands from behind his back, slotting the silver handgun to his other side, keeping it patient before he shot some paper targets. "Yet I noticed you come in and out, so I decided to see if there was something interesting enough to take my mind of that for a while." Hudson added, eyeing the paper targets and then his gun with his brown eyes, before finally pointing towards the targets with his hand. "And it looks like a test of skill is the reason to avoid that boring business." Hudson said with a sly smile, implying that he too would be proving his marksmanship.
"A few hours lost should not affect me too much," Hudson replied to his next comment, "Now then, to the targets?" Hudson asked, taking out his silver handgun as his deadly revolver lay at the side, ready to be used in another event.

____________________________________________________________________________________ Hudson had not punished the teen but then again he did not expect himself to be punished. Not to say that he was arrogant but it seems that his colonel had not punished him ever since he entered the military school. As a child though...they were quite frequent and often as he had made a lot of mistakes that would get him killed if he had been in war. That was why it was a good thing that as a kid he could not enter war just yet, unless he was dragged but as unfortunate he was as a child, it had never gotten that bad. Instead he was simply trained to do well in war. That was why he saw no reason to fear or apologize like the ones who had even accidentally bumped into the infamous reaper. The man obviously commanded great respect from others but more importantly he was able to bring out fear from the enemies and allies. That way it was easier to keep everything under control.
When he had asked the question why, he certainly didn't expect such an answer, "Paperwork, you know how it is." It was as simple as that. Many would see it as the colonel being diligent enough to finish all his work no matter what. Yet the silver hair male was not one of those people. No, he wasn't an optimist that love to see the good side of people and happy to see such traits. He was a realist and therefore was much more tactful in mind. To stay up later for paperwork that could be done later. That was not something good especially if they were attacked tomorrow. He could had given it to someone else or merely do it the next day. To have decided to do it in the night was not exactly something that would be advised. Yet Hudson had done it rather easily. Maybe some of the colonels would laugh being able to agree or the lieutenants would look at him in great light. Yet he merely gave him a blank stare and open his mouth "Sir with all due respect is that really something you should be doing?" he asked. Despite the fact that he was an assassin he was rather honest or at least honest to those that he respects anyway.
The man soon continued on. "Yet I noticed you come in and out, so I decided to see if there was something interesting enough to take my mind of that for a while." He merely blinked but on the inside he was a bit worried. If the colonel saw him go in and out of the office, did he spot the stay dog he picked up the other day? No, if so he would have questioned him. Still he was going to have to make sure to enter the office early in the morning for a quick check but continuing his work just in case. It doesn't hurt to be cautious. He had merely nodded as a sign that he had received the information. It seems his colonel was quite curious or was rather bored and decided to follow him with nothing better to do. Well he couldn't blame him since the lieutenant was not very fond of paperwork either, one of the reasons why he was thankful to have an official rank that was not high, just high enough for people not to question his skills but not high enough to actually lead and have too much work to do for his real job.
When he saw the colonel raised the gun he didn't flinch. There was no fear in his eyes despite the fact that the gun was in his direction. Yet with his perception he can see that the gun was not aimed at him but something behind him. He didn't step back or step away from it making it appear as if he trusted the man. In truth he simply didn't care. He never saw his own life or any life as worth protecting. Although he noted that the man was now to stay with him. One would find themselves graced with his presence and Seijun was not different. It was rare to have a colonel willing to accompany you especially in the night. Also Hudson was known to be a skilled marksman, some advice from the man will do the teen some good or at least it wouldn't hurt anyway. If it did then he would just have to learn from the it.
"A few hours lost should not affect me too much," He replied so calmly before wanting more targets. With an additional person the teen let go of the paper under his feet and it flew up scattering among the wind. He pointed his gun at the papers and started shooting able to hit some but missing the ones that were much father. With a sword it was easy to predict movement in as it is close range, a gun however was a much different story for him.

Hudson just grunted when the duty of doing paperwork was questioned by the skilled lieutenant; he would of not been doing it if he had to, Hudson could not stand the boring work that he had to do when it did not involve fighting of some sort.
"Apparently so; the last few papers were important and had to be filled by me especially instead of a common soldier, the majority was done by others though." Hudson replied, letting him know why, "More serious business." Hudson shrugged, taking out a silencer from a crate to the side of him.
The black gloves on his hands calmly handled the dangerous gun and the useful attachment. His hands gently placed the silencer on the edge of the gun, covering the section where the deadly bullets were fired from. This way the bullets would not wake everyone up in the base, after all that would cause some problems. Not for the grunts or the medics, but for the superiors and the general...They would not be too happy to be woken from their slumber due to the carelessness of the colonel and lieutenant. At all.
The silver handgun was ready for firing and itching to release the bullets stored within it, Hudson more than happy to oblige.
Brown eyes focused on the papers as they flew in the air, the silver handgun instantly aiming up towards the sky, bullet after bullet being launched towards the unlucky paper targets as the trigger was repeatedly pulled without mercy. Each bullet ripped into the papers like they were nothing; Hudson's marksmanship was truly a scary sight, hitting each target clearly and ruining each paper that got in the way of the shiny bullet.
Hudson stopped firing as his handgun needed to be reloaded, halting his fire and refusing to reload and instead watching Seijun fire. Impressed with his skills, Hudson knew their was room for improvement; although he was also fully aware that his shooting skills were lacking slightly only because he used the sharp blade more often...And his swordsmanship abilities were truly exceptional. As a matter of fact, Hudson could see Seijun defeating him in a battle of blades, although it was something that would needed to be proved; while Hudson used a combat knife, shorter than a sword, he was still one ruthless bastard with it. A fact would be that a blade fight between them would obviously be a great event.
Although it was clear that with more practice, Seijun would become a better marksman than he is now. The art of firing a gun was important more than most knew; it was an art that won battles, and ultimately wars. There was more to it than pulling the trigger, there was observation; skill; risks; a state of mind even. More than simple accuracy and guts were put into the firing of a gun, something many needed to know before going into war.
"Your missing the harder targets, Seijun." Hudson pointed out, his brown eyes observing, "That blade of yours has made you lose focus of your marksmanship." He added, letting him know that his time spent excelling with his sword had left his shooting skills rather rusty for someone of his rank. "Although someone of your caliber should be sporting great aim soon enough." Hudson finished, somewhat complimenting Seijun.
OOC: lol, we'll just force the newb soldiers to pick it all up >D

____________________________________________________________________________________ Seijun watched as the colonel had merely shrugged. Apparently they were important papers that had to be signed by Hudson only. That was quite a shame but at least it was good to know that he didn't do all the work having some of the lower ranked soldiers to do it. That way Hudson could practice and not lose his skills. After all it would be a shame for a reaper to lose his scythe right? He saw the man skillfully placed the silencer onto the gun even with the lack of light or guide him. Of course that was to be expected but of course that wasn't to say that it was something to be admired. As a kid he remembered watching him place the silencer on the gun so smoothly that he had viewed him almost as a angel, well an angel of death but an angel nonetheless. The man had saved him from the streets, gave him a place to live, trained him and gave him a job so that he would not end up as a failure like his father. If only Hudson had been his father instead, he sure viewed the man more of a father than his own biological one. That man was a disgraced and to know that he was alive surely didn't help even if he lives in a cruel fate.
As the two shot, the colonel had gotten every aim on the mark. The teen though could not say the same thing for himself missing some. He was far too used to close range combat. He was very capable of dodging bullets and predicting their aim by how the gun is lined up but when it came to doing it himself, it was a different story. He even knew the theory of each style and how one should shoot as well, a lesson he learned from school and the Reaper. He watched as some of them missed, the paper being saved by the wind. If any was to see him right now they would truly wonder how he had gotten his position. As a kid he was able to shoot well due to his perception but over the years that had changed. Guns left too much for assassinations so he was forced to use swords and that has taken a toll on his marksmanship. He couldn't help but wonder if Hudson was disappointed in him and then quickly shook it off. Whatever he lacked, he will surely make it up in other areas. If not then he would die and that was that.
"Your missing the harder targets, Seijun." Seijun noted that he didn't call him lieutenant. Did that mean that he was allowed to not call him Colonel? How long has it been since he last just called him by Hudson. He had stopped that when he had entered the military school didn't he? Yes, it was because it was not formal and the man was no longer a father figure but a superior. At least that was how it was suppose to be but the silver hair male did consider the older man to be a family member even if he can't say it. "That blade of yours has made you lose focus of your marksmanship." He did not say anything and merely stared with his empty golden orbs. He didn't make up any reason or excuses nor did he bring out his strengths. He saw no reason to, he was not the kind to do such a thing. Making up excuses or covering something up was worse than failures. He can remember how his dad would always make up excuses to his mother why he couldn't get a job. It was a sickening memory and no matter how much he tried to repress it, it always seems to come back haunting him. "Although someone of your caliber should be sporting great aim soon enough." He finished complimenting him which was rare. Hudson rarely complimented anyone and had very high standards.
Seijun felt nothing though, he knew he should be proud or at least that was what a normal person would act. Although he suppose he did feel a bit happy or maybe it was his cranium trying to make him feel human. He couldn't be sure and merely shrugged it off. "Thank you sir and if you have an suggestion on how to improve I implore you to inform me. he spoke. Most people would ask for advice in order to live, it was natural for people to want to live even if it was a weakness. Yet, for him he simply wanted to know in order to improve the chance of success in a mission.

Hudson just nodded when the lieutenant had asked him for advice, glad to present Seijun with tips to increase his kill count on the battlefield. Knowing the man for quite some time, Hudson had noticed the man seemed to care more about his skills and rank than his own life, something that was brave but arguably foolish, or simply both. However, whichever it truly was, there was no hiding that the certain trait of the man was one of the reasons his resolve was so strong and led him to the high position he achieved; the lieutenant rank.
When you put all your heart and soul into becoming a stronger, quicker and more skilled soldier, the chance of death became smaller and smaller, even if it still remained large; after all, those who did not focus became weak and easier to kill, although the cruel truth was those that acted weak and hid from most of the gunfire and avoided planting bullets into enemy bodies usually survived through sheer luck and cowardice compared to the soldiers willing to kill as many as they could.
Hudson was a man that was in the latter section for when the battlefield was his to grace. It is no wonder the man still breathes, the man's ability combined with his attitude within war gave him the nickname of the Reaper. Not just a word he self-proclaimed himself to be. It was given to him by enemies and allies alike; proof that this man was dangerous. Although like every other man and hybrid, the shot of a gun could end his life if well-placed, for as much as he was called the Reaper, he was far from immortal. Who knew how long it could be until he was simply shot in the back? Stabbed in the chest? Blown up by a grenade? Enemy attacks could come from anywhere at any time on the field of battle, something every soldier knew. The risk they took.
The eyes of the colonel stared at the gun in his hands before slowly placing it down next to him on a stand, returning his vision to the silver-haired lieutenant. "If the target is moving, attempt to fire ahead of them in the direction they are moving, or you will simply be following them with gunfire than ripping into them with it." Hudson explained, implying that if they fired at them the bullets would trail, yet in front they would collide with the deadly objects. A smirk came to his face, "And if you ever feel rather sadistic in one of your assassinations, simply shoot them in the knee caps; the pain will make them drop any weapon in their hands." Hudson added, sounding slightly amused with the painful thought.
